JOB SUMMARY:
This is an entry-level design position reporting to the Fire Sprinkler Manager. The Junior Designer assists in creating layouts of fire sprinkler systems, detail drawings, and diagrams under the guidance of senior staff. The role supports the design team in preparing documentation necessary for installation and project completion.
Position is located in Southborough, Massachusetts.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in preparing fire sprinkler system layouts and detail drawings using CAD software.
Make copies of drawings and maintain records of design changes.
Support the design team in reviewing work orders and identifying key dimensions for layout.
Help convert design dimensions for production and installation processes.
Submit design plans for internal review and assist in obtaining necessary permits.
Coordinate with engineering and design staff to incorporate modifications.
Generate graphic representations of designs for review and approval.
Assist in preparing final sketches and verifying dimensions, materials, and system relationships.
Support revisions to design drawings based on feedback and field conditions.
Help compute basic measurements such as angles, dimensions, and clearances.
Draft multi-view drawings under supervision.
Assist with procurement of permits and preparation of closeout documents.
Maintain organized project documentation and support administrative tasks related to design.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Associate degree or coursework in drafting, engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
Basic understanding of AutoCAD or similar design software.
Familiarity with fire protection systems is a plus.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints with guidance.
Interest in learning NFPA 13 and related codes.
Good organizational and communication skills.
Valid driver’s license preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Internship or academic experience in fire protection or mechanical design.
Exposure to CAD design software and Microsoft Office tools.
Basic understanding of commercial sprinkler systems and related trades.
Willingness to pursue NICET certification or other industry credentials.
Ability to perform basic calculations related to geometry and layout.
Successful completion of a drug test and pre-employment background screening is required. MVR checks are required for all driving positions.
